Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Rainbow Mountain Tour in Cusco
Early departure from your hotel in Cusco toward the district of Pitumarca in the province of Canchis. The journey takes approximately 2 hours, passing through beautiful Andean landscapes. Breakfast in Pitumarca before continuing for an additional 40 minutes by vehicle to Phullawasipata (3,700 m / 12,139 ft), the starting point of the hike.
From Phullawasipata, we begin the ascent, which takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m / 17,060 ft). During the hike, you will pass through grazing areas where you can see alpacas, llamas, and occasionally vicuñas. Once at the summit, you will have time to admire the colorful geological formations, take photos, and enjoy views of the majestic Ausangate snow-capped mountain.
The descent takes place through the Red Valley, an area known for its striking red formations caused by mineral oxidation. The descent takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes back to Phullawasipata, where our transportation will be waiting to take you to lunch.
After lunch, we return to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon. Transfer to your hotel.
Optional: During the hike, you may hire a horse directly from local residents for the ascent portion (USD 20, subject to availability).
