Choquequirao is an impressive Inca city nestled high in the mountains, surrounded by deep canyons and an Andean landscape that remains largely untouched. The archaeological complex is divided into several sectors with ceremonial, agricultural, and residential functions, all connected by a network of paths that converge at its main central plaza. Walking through its terraces, agricultural platforms, and enclosures allows travelers to discover a lesser-known Inca sanctuary than Machu Picchu, yet equally magical, where the silence and energy of its ancient inhabitants can still be felt.

Choquequirao Inca Trek Itinerary 5 Days

Day 01: Cusco – Cachora – Cocamasana – Playa Rosalina.
Day 02: Playa Rosalina – Choquequirao.
Day 03: Choquequirao – Raqaypata.
Day 04: Raqaypata – Cocamasana.
Day 05: Cocamasana – Cachora – Cusco.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco - Cachora - Cocamasana - Playa Rosalina

At 5:30 AM, you will be picked up from your hotel, and local transportation will take you to the village of Cachora. This 4-hour drive will be the beginning of this great adventure. We will arrive in Cachora around 11:00 AM, where we will prepare for the hike by loading our backpacks and equipment onto the mules. After that, we will hike for approximately 6 hours. We will stop for a short lunch break at a place called Capulioc. Then, we will continue hiking toward Rosalina Bridge, which crosses the Apurímac River at 1,500 m (4,921 ft) above sea level. This is also where we will set up camp for the first night.

Day 02: Playa Rosalina - Choquequirao

We begin from Rosalina Bridge toward our next campsite called Sunchupata. As we continue along the trail, you will observe changes in vegetation and climate. On this day, we will ascend to 2,900 m (9,514 ft) above sea level. Lunch will be served in Maranpata, and then we will continue hiking until we reach Sunchupata.Empezamos con el puente Rosalina hacia nuestro próximo campamento llamado Sunchupata. A medida que avanzamos por el camino observaremos el cambio de vegetación y clima. En este día ascenderemos a 2900 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Almuerzo en Maranpata y continuamos el camino hasta llegar a Sunchupata.

Day 03: Choquequirao - Raqaypata

We depart from Sunchupata and hike to Choquequirao. Once there, we will have the entire day to explore the archaeological complex. After the visit, we will return to Sunchupata, where we will camp for the second consecutive night.

Day 04: Raqaypata - Cocamasana

From Sunchupata, we will return to Rosalina Bridge. Along the way, we will visit a place where local artisans produce a traditional sugarcane liquor called “Cambrai” (sugarcane chicha). We will stop for lunch and spend the night camping near Rosalina Bridge.

Day 05: Cocamasana - Cachora - Cusco

On this day, we will hike from Rosalina Bridge to Cachora. In Cachora, a bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.Este dia caminaremos desde Puente Rosalinas hasta Cachora. En Cachora un bus nos estará esperando para retornar a Cusco.
