Waqrapukara is an Inca archaeological site built at over 4,300 meters above sea level on a cliff overlooking the Apurímac River canyon. Its name means “horn-shaped fortress” because two large natural rock formations flank the complex like giant horns. Day 01: Waqrapukara Tour in Cusco 1 Day
The tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Cusco early in the morning. The journey south passes through Andean villages and mountain landscapes, with a stop for breakfast along the way before reaching the starting point of the hike in Sangarará.
From there, the moderate ascent to Waqrapukara begins, covering approximately 7 kilometers and gradually climbing through valleys and hillsides. Upon arrival at the archaeological complex, you will have a guided visit to learn about the history of the site and explore its terraces, ceremonial plazas, and stone structures. After lunch (box lunch or served depending on conditions), you will begin the descent along the same trail.
The return to Cusco takes place in the afternoon, arriving in the city center and transferring you to your hotel to end the day.
