Itinerary Trek to Nevado de Chicon 2 days

Day 1: Cusco – Urubamba – Base of Nevado Chicón

  • Distance: 55 km.
  • Departure from Cusco: 4:00 AM, Departure early in the morning to Urubamba, where the trek begins. The journey by car takes approximately 1 hour 50 minutes.
  • Breakfast in Urubamba before starting the trek.
  • Beginning of the trek: From Urubamba (agricultural center of Santa Rosa 2871masl), you will start walking to the base of the Nevado Chicon, with an approximate time of 5 to 6 hours of walking. The trail passes through diverse Andean landscapes, including cultivated fields, small communities, and finally a more mountainous environment.
  • Camping: Arrival at the base of the snow-capped mountain, where you will set up camp. Here, you will be able to rest and acclimatize to the altitude. Depending on the pace of the group, hiking time can vary between 5 to 7 hours.
  • Dinner and rest: Enjoy a hot dinner under the stars and get ready for the next day’s adventure.

Day 2: Base of Nevado Chicon – Summit – Return to Cusco

  • Sunrise and breakfast: Wake up early for an energetic breakfast.
  • Ascent to the summit: The hike to the summit of Nevado Chicón begins at dawn. This part of the trek is more demanding, but the panoramic views from the summit are worth it. Other peaks of the Andes can be seen, as well as the surrounding valleys.
  • Descent: After enjoying the scenery and taking pictures, you will begin the descent to base camp. After a short rest, you will continue the descent to Urubamba.
  • Return to Cusco: From Urubamba, transfer back to Cusco.
