Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Urubamba – Base of Nevado Chicón
Distance: 55 km.
Departure from Cusco: 4:00 AM, early morning departure to Urubamba, where the hike begins. The drive takes approximately 1 hour 50 minutes.
Breakfast in Urubamba before starting the hike.
Hike start: From Urubamba (Santa Rosa agricultural center, 2,871 m / 9,416 ft), the hike begins toward the base of Nevado Chicón, with an approximate duration of 5 to 6 hours. The trail passes through diverse Andean landscapes, including cultivated fields, small communities, and finally more mountainous terrain.
Camping: Arrival at the base of the mountain, where the camp will be set up. Here you can rest and acclimate to the altitude. Depending on the group’s pace, hiking time may vary between 5 and 7 hours.
Dinner and rest: Enjoy a hot dinner under the stars and prepare for the adventure of the next day.
Day 2: Base of Nevado Chicón – Summit – Return to Cusco
Sunrise and breakfast: Wake up early for an energizing breakfast.
Ascent to the summit: The hike to the summit of Nevado Chicón begins at sunrise. This part of the trek is more demanding, but the panoramic views from the summit are worth it. You can see other Andean peaks as well as the surrounding valleys.
Descent: After enjoying the scenery and taking photos, begin the descent back to the base camp. After a short rest, continue descending to Urubamba.
Return to Cusco: From Urubamba, transfer back to Cusco.
