Along the Miraflores boardwalk, there is a point where most visitors stop without planning to. The Faro de la Marina has stood in that same location since 1900, and over more than a century it has become one of the most recognizable elements of Lima’s coastal skyline. It is not tall or monumental compared to other lighthouses around the world, but it has an immediate visual presence: the blue and white spiral stripes on its cylindrical structure make it stand out from several hundred meters away in any direction along the boardwalk.

History and function
The lighthouse was built in 1900 to guide navigation in Lima’s bay. It stands 21 meters tall and has a light range of 45 kilometers out to sea, which on the clearest days allows it to be seen from vessels in open Pacific waters. It belongs to the Peruvian Navy, which is responsible for its maintenance and operation, and it continues to fulfill its original maritime signaling function more than 120 years after its construction.
It is considered the most visited lighthouse in Peru, not because it has specially organized tourist access, but because its location in Raimondi Park within the Miraflores boardwalk makes it a natural stop on any walk along the coast. No one travels to Lima specifically to see the lighthouse, but almost everyone who walks the boardwalk ends up taking a photo of it.
Where it is and how to find it
The lighthouse is located in Raimondi Park, which is the same park where paragliders take off. It sits on the Malecón Cisneros, the central stretch of the Miraflores boardwalk, relatively close to Parque del Amor to the south and Malecón de la Marina to the north. From Larco Avenue, you can reach it by walking west toward the cliff edge and then following the boardwalk. From Kennedy Park, it is about a 10 to 15-minute walk.
It does not have a separate access address because it is part of the public space of the boardwalk. Entry to the park and viewing the lighthouse are completely free.
The immediate surroundings
Raimondi Park, where the lighthouse is located, has green areas with resting spots, outdoor exercise stations, and the paragliding launch point. From the park benches near the lighthouse, you get one of the most open views along the boardwalk toward the Pacific Ocean and the Costa Verde, with the beaches at the base of the cliffs seventy meters below.
On clear summer days between December and April, the contrast between the deep blue ocean, the yellow cliffs, and the lighthouse stripes in the foreground creates a photographic composition that practically arranges itself. On winter days with coastal fog, the atmosphere is different, but the silhouette of the lighthouse in the mist has its own character.
Combining it with the rest of the boardwalk
The lighthouse works more as a reference point within the boardwalk route than as a destination in itself. Combining it with Parque del Amor and Parque María Reiche to the south, with Malecón de la Marina and its sports circuit to the north, and with the paragliders that take off from the same park allows you to organize an afternoon along the boardwalk with several points of interest without needing to travel to another district.
